Types of Bias

Affinity bias is an unconscious bias where individuals tend to get along with others who are like them. Those with affinity bias require more effort to bridge differences when diversity is present.

Confirmation bias is introduced when someone provides more validation to evidence that confirms their own beliefs while undervaluing evidence that could disprove it. With confirmation bias, individuals selectively recall information and interpret this information in a biased way.  I discuss the importance of respect to neutralize these biases in the workplace.

Ask yourself:  What can I do to ensure these biases are not distorting my decisions?
